Planetside 1 was an absolutely legendary game for many gamers. Right up there with Tribes 1. Can the second generation of Planetside 2 stack up with the original? We are not sure, but we’ll go down some of the features for you.
Similarities to Planetside 1
So far the game itself has shown the massive environments and vehicular combat that made 1 great. The same persistent world is back that made everyone so happy. They have also added a day and night cycle to switch up combat. Not only that, but they have weather to switch it up even more. The game is looking quite true to the original incarnation, something which we really worried about. Many a game has been ruined by straying too far from an original which was great.
The Planetside 2 Lightning tank
Let us go down one of their new signature vehicles, the Lightning tank. The Lightning tank has AA abilities and is a very fast hit-and-run tank. Here are some specifics:
- It can fire six rounds in under three seconds, which means that the weapons on it are rapid-firing just as it’s speed is fast. It is also lighter than many other tanks, so keep that in mind.
- As with many vehicles, it has a variety of different turrets. You can switch them out to greatly switch your capabilities.
- It also has a signature “Skyguard” turret which you can use to chase down fliers combined with your massive speed. In fact this is the fastest ground vehicle in the game.
So far it looks like the development team has the right idea with this. If we are really lucky, we will end up with an even better game than we had with 1.
