Pixel Press Spotlight

Pixel Press is a new game about making a game. It is not just something simple like coming up with a name. This new PC and Mobile app will let you design levels and put in mechanics for your game as well. We thought this might be interesting for those of you who dabble in design but want something a little lighter than coding.

How Pixel Press Works

This particular program is designed for those of us who are artistically inclined. You draw your own map with normal paper and tools. Then you take a picture of it or otherwise upload it. In a short bit of time it will be a playable platforming level that you can edit however you want. Of course this also means that Pixel Press is not as useful for those who have strengths in coding or other design. Of course there are plenty of alternatives there.

 The Sound of Pixel Press

The game also lets you create audio for your new game. It has a simple interface to let you make the various sound effects any game needs. Of course it is not an advanced sound studio but no one thought it was going to be. This one seems well suited for teachers and parents who want to teach their kids about art and sound in a fun way.

Where to Get Pixel Press

From what we have seen so far the game only supports making a platformer. However it looks like other types of games are in development. You can get in on an early version with their beta page. You can check out the prototype. If you are a press member or attended E3 you can also get priority in the early versions. The game itself is also on Steam Greenlight if you are interested in it there. We are wondering how it will work with a normal PC although you could possibly use a USB camera.
