Notch Changes Plans on 0x10c-Under Pressure- Nerd Age
19
There is some controversy right now about a decision Notch has come to about the formerly upcoming game 0x10c. He won’t be going forward with this game anymore. Today we will go over the announcement for you, what led up to it and some information on where they’re going from here.
The Notch Ox10c Tumblr Announcement
The Tumblr post detailed the fact that he is no longer working on the game for a few reasons. The chief one appears to be the fact that it has so much public scrutiny. He believes that the game is not going to be up to the expectations that people are putting forward for it.
Time is not the Problem with Ox10c
It seems to have little to do with how much time he has to make games. Between streaming Team Fortress 2 and working on smaller projects he seems to have plenty of time. As Notch puts it himself “the pressure of suddenly having people care if the game got made or not started zapping the fun out of the project.” The community is having mixed feelings on this post that range from outraged to supportive. Petulant is also a popular reaction to the post as well. You should make your own assumptions about it.
Project Trillek
Since he will no longer be working on it he has promoted a different group of indie gamers. Project Trillek is a small project being done to create an open source space exploration game. We wish them the best but we have seen many fan projects like this fail before they got out of the gate. Of course if they manage to succeed they could become the next big indie developers themselves. Either way this project is definitely something you should watch and keep an eye on as we will be doing so as well.
