Noragami has had a lot of good parts so far, but the most interesting part for me has been the relationship between Yato and Yukine. Yato has given the very young Yukine another chance at some kind of life by being his divine weapon. Unfortunately it is not easy being a partner with Yato since he is a poor god and does not have his own temple. Yukine being so young and inexperienced has given in to temptation many times which is causing a problem.
Yukine is not very fair to Yato in Noragami. While things are not very easy for Yukine because Yato is a poor god, Yato still puts up with things from Yukine that other gods might not. Yato has told him that every time Yukine thinks something perverted or does something wrong that Yato can feel it. Yet this does not seem to stop Yukine at all. He does not think of what he is doing to Yato at all. Which makes sense considering Yukine is a teenager, but it feels like they want the audience to feel a bit bad for Yukine and I don’t. Yukine is being selfish and expecting to be indulged, which is why he tries to find an easier job with another god.
Yato knows that Yukine is blighting him and that he could die, but he does not do much about it. I have to wonder why he does not at least show Yukine the effects of what he is doing to Yato. He appears to be shielding him from his actions, which is not going to help anyone. If Yato dies and Yukine needs to find another god will anyone take him in if he will not control his base urges? It is nice to see that Yato is not just giving up on Yukine when it gets rough. Helps to flesh out his character that he seems to care for Yukine despite all the problems he is having with him. If only Yukine would feel the same about Yato and not give up on him over minor matters.
It was a bit surprising that Hiyori did nothing for Yato after finding out that Yukine was slowly killing him. Hiyori is clearly on Yukine’s side and tries to get Yato to change the way he talks to Yukine. Which considering Yukine is acting like a brat why should Yato treat him like a trustworthy adult? Yato may not be the best god or guy which in Noragami apparently means that most characters think it is ok if he just dies. It will be interesting to see how this develops in episode 8 of Noragami. Hopefully someone will finally step up and help Yato with his problem child Yukine.
