We at Nerd Age are going to be donating all profits to charity. Which charity you ask? You decide. From streaming to donations we will be giving all our money made off this site to charity. We need your help to make this work. If you have a charity and you’re looking for donations like these, make sure you have the right donor management system first.

Should You Care?

We have plans for events with OSD, Soda Drinker Pro and Enemy Mind developers in the works. Two of the three are all in and one more has expressed interest. We plan to have developers talking in the chat with fans while we play their games. So you can hang out with them while helping a good cause. If you are a developer we want to hear from you as well so we can promote your game and also help your favorite charities.

How Do I Know My Money Goes to Charity?

We’ll put up donation buttons linked directly to the charity. By viewing the charity website too you will be able to see how to fundraise money, where your money is going to, and what your donations mean. Many streamers (many, not all) actually have you funnel it into their PayPal. They then donate it in their name giving them a massive tax break. Some even steal money off the top.

No one mentions it because so many people are doing business this way. We will only ask you to donate directly to the charity. With this system there is a 0% chance that anyone involved with Nerd Age could skim off the top. In the event that we have to use PayPal (which we shouldn’t) we will give you tabulated records down to the cent.

This Sounds Too Good to Be True

I agree. I’ll explain. After years of high-quality writing that got us nowhere and attempts by some in the indie community we were growing tired of the site here. There isn’t much point in putting out a good product if we have no audience. The main writers here have jobs outside of this we can live off of and we are doing just fine.

So we had two choices, shut it down or try a different approach. We don’t need the money so we’re turning this into one of the only true charity sites on the web. Staff won’t even be getting a payroll from it. But it is worth doing.
