Microsoft 2012 E3 Press Conference Review

We try to be objective, but E3 does not really call for objectivity when Microsoft forces me to watch Usher. As usual with conferences, they once again prove they do not get it. They are of course pushing the Kinect nonstop, but they also want us to play Madden on our tablets. We are just shaking our heads in confusion.

Microsoft E3 and the Missing Gameplay

As with any E3, Microsoft has once again left out most of the gameplay. Even the games that were shown were mostly cinemas. This has become the standard for press conferences, but why should we put up with it? Show us some gameplay.

Microsoft E3 2012 Press Conference Tomb Raider

The star of Tomb Raider is now a weak, wailing woman instead of a strong character who kills wolves and bears without fear.

Missing the Point

Most nerds don’t really want to play Madden on a tablet. We don’t want Skyrim to be “better with Kinect”. We don’t want every game to have gameplay that is worse due to being made for Kinect. So why do things continue being handled in this way? Because for the most part, they think they already have the hardcore audience.

Our Main Problem with all Microsoft E3 Conferences

Let us get serious here, our main problem is that they are all about gimmicks. Characters you can talk to and use Kinect with is not something any gamers we would like to be associated with would enjoy. Wreckateer is perhaps the best example. Demonstrated by a woman who has clearly never played a difficult game in her life, it shows winding around like an idiot to control bombs.

The Stick of Truth

This is not what a great many of us want. We will never be buying any of these games here. It is a serious shame when one of the most hardcore games in the Microsoft Lineup is a South Park game, the Stick of Truth.

Microsoft E3 2012 Usher

We Hate Usher

Honestly this has to stop. This is out of control when we have a dreadful performance by Usher in the middle of the presentation. Something is seriously wrong here. We blame those of you who actually bought Dance Central.

Resident Evil

The High Points

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Resident Evil 6 were the high points of this presentation. Call of Duty has 50% more turret shooting if the trailer is to be believed.  Resident Evil 6 is filled with quick time events like 5. But we at least got to see some gameplay from each.  We also saw some more Halo, which everyone already knew about.

If you do want to check the others out, there are many places where it is streaming including Cnet.
