It is rare that you see hope for the industry. It is even rarer for a big corporation to be called into account. Honest dissent is usually stifled by a tide of ignorance. But some fans are actually calling Bioware into account. They want Bioware to feel repercussions for how bad Mass Effect 3 was. They are doing this through Federal Trade Commission complaints. Many have also filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau.
Mass Effect 3 and the lying liars who lie
Bioware made it a habit to tell lies about Mass Effect 3. One fan compiled many of their lies in this excellent thread. And don’t worry, if Bioware deletes it we have it saved. Bioware has a habit of deleting anything that could cause them a problem.
Mass Effect 3 and the creative genius, at lying, not writing
On that note, we should mention that Jennifer Hepler isn’t the only driving force behind the bad writing. Let’s look at Lead Writer Mac Walters and review one of his quotes; “Experience the beginning, middle, and end of an emotional story unlike any other, where the decisions you make completely shape your experience and outcome.” Which is the tagline for their site. As you can see, what they actually delivered was a cookie-cutter ending. Your choices make barely any difference. But you can see all the colors and “taste the rainbow”.
But will the complaints matter?
Many people are claiming that these complaints will not matter. But we have to argue, that someone has to take a stand. Bioware should be called into question for their terrible treatment of fans and games. If no one stands up, we will no longer have decent games. At the very least, Bioware has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. It is a step in the right direction. And we say bravo to the fans who won’t accept less from games.
