Maoyuu Maou Yuusha episode 5 is mostly about the southern kingdoms naval battle with the demons on Bright Light Island. The merchants prepare for the new battle by making many compasses and warships to supply the southern nations. The southern nations go out on their ships to reach Bright Light Island and are taken down by tentacles before they can even reach the island. That leads to the death of the Winter King and now his son is in power. The Demon King and Hero finally get back together for the New Year’s festival.
The Hero of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha finds out about the conditions in Gate City that he helped to win for the humans. The fact the humans are mistreating the demons in their care bothers him and makes him feel bad for helping to create the situation. The Hero at the time did not understand the situation though, so how was he to know that if the humans took over they would be mistreating innocent people like the people he knew. At least now that he knows he is doing something to make things better for the demons in Gate City.
After the failure of the southern nations to take Bright Light Island, there is talk of responsibility and value. The White Night King does not seem to value anything from the ships that were destroyed to the six thousand people who were killed due to his failed plan. While he takes responsibility for the whole failure it means nothing to him and he is more concerned about the new wealth the Winter King has. White Knight King implies that the Winter King was holding back when he could have committed more with his new found wealth from the crops his kingdom now has. The new Winter King seems to feel the losses much more strongly and wants to take responsibility for the next battle, so that they will not be in the same position again. After seeing how things have gone he even feels bad about how the kings did not focus on the fighting as much as they should have and gave responsibility for the war to the Hero. This did not make a lot of sense. If whole armies have trouble taking down the demons, then how could a small party change the whole war for them. The kings should feel bad for sending that group to what should have been all their deaths. It was all for nothing anyway since the new Winter King knows that in order to feed his people they would have kept fighting the demons no matter what.
