Ludum Dare had its 10 year anniversary jam over the weekend and the theme was tiny world. They set a goal for 1000 games and they made it already with over 1000 games just counting compo submissions.
Ludum Dare 23 Around the World
There are many locations around the world that are holding Ludum Dare 23 gatherings so that people can code together. There were at least 9 gatherings all across the US and many more in other places across the world.
Coders weren’t the only ones getting excited about Ludum Dare 23 though. Unity Pro, Playtomic, and Corona gave out free licenses to Ludum Dare 23 coders.
But what about the games?
This theme had so many different ways to go and so there are many different games to play. There were fantasy themes like helping forest sprites land on flowers like in the game Zephyr. One person even made a board game with the rules in a PDF called Tiny Huge Planet. What about the tiny world inside of a snowglobe? Snow Globe Kerfuffle is a shoot em up that has the player protecting the globe from peasants. Too much destruction of the globe and the game is over. Maybe we should go even tinier like Ant Run did and think about bugs. Some games are even about things so tiny that you can’t see them with the naked eye like Tiny Contamination, well almost. That doesn’t even cover all the ways the creative coders decided to interpret the theme of the jam.
Lazy Brain Games who we have covered here before made an entry for Ludum Dare as well called Necro Gaia. In Necro Gaia the sun is moving and the Earth has to summon other planets to stay safe during the transition.
Sos also made a neat game called Planet Life where your character is trying to beat the masses to get food and work. There is an assigned time for everything in the fast paced life on Planet Life.
Those are just a few of the many games that have been made for this very special Ludum Dare. Can’t wait to try out as many of the games as I can.
