Kerbal Space Program explodes off the launchpad

Do you want to make a rocket out of rockets? Amusing shapes out of boosters? Crash into a lake in Russia? Then get ready because Kerbal Space Program is in your face.

In Kerbal Space Program you spend your time building random designs which may or may not explode at launch. The other half of the fun comes from watching your hapless pilots flail, although the middle one is almost always happy.

You can make your rocket any shape and size you want. Want to make a rocket made of other rockets which are made of rockets? Then you can do that just fine. Want to make an Octopus shaped rocket with flailing missile tentacles? This is the game for you.

Some of the larger designs become pretty much impossible to launch though, but that’s just as fun. Watching your flaming wheel of a ship cascade recklessly through the landscape is a huge amount of fun. It’s almost as fun as watching your mega rocket blow up on the pad.

What is even more interesting is that their community is already making significant part additions. There are quite a few packs of wings, thrusters and stabilizers. The beginning selection is in fact a little limited, so this is a very good addition. On the other hand some of the items from the pacts don’t just give you more options, they launch you into the middle of the solar system. The more powerful items make getting into space a breeze, good luck getting back though.

The game is made as freeware by a very small indie gaming company called Squad. While it is very early, the game has some major potential. So if you want to build, crash and explode this will be an entertaining little diversion for you. You can get it here from Squad.
