Kakumeiki Valvrave season 2 episode 5 is about Haruto being afraid of piloting Valvrave after finding out what can happen to the pilot. Also some of the Dorssians find out that their commander is not the same man he used to be. Haruto and L-elf go to destroy a Dorssian sub called the Phantom only to find out that it is a place for harvesting runes from humans.
Quite a lot happened in this episode of Kakumeiki Valvrave, but the most important part was getting Haruto to pilot his mech again. L-elf fell back on his old standby once again of putting someone else in Haruto’s place to get Haruto to pilot once again. Haruto may be afraid of what will happen to him, but he is more upset that someone else might have to carry his burden. They have not shown Haruto in the future and have made a reference that Haruto may be dead. Maybe he does end up a husk like Marie because after seeing that runes are people’s memories he will be even more unlikely to want to get them from people. There could also be some kind of battle that requires so much energy that it sucks him dry.
The conversation between Haruto and L-elf about how the other can not understand the situation they were in was pretty funny. Both of them would rather be in doing what the other is doing. Haruto would rather be on the outside leading or supporting the people going into battle and L-elf would give anything to be operating the mech. Haruto would like to be a pacifist, but since he has the most important mech and the deadliest to whoever uses it he feels obligated to keep on going. L-elf could leave the Jiorans and try some other avenue to achieve his goal. The Valvraves are key to L-elf’s vision, so he is stuck in the situation as well.
The farm for runes is pretty sick. They take their own people and suck away their memories while they are unconscious. The idea that a machine can suck away memories and put them in a jar is pretty weird. Also when they break the jar the memories come out as a kind of gas. How can they suck the memories out of the blood if they are a gas? The whole idea of the runes being memories is just messed up. It makes all of the story make even less sense which is bad because the show did not make much sense to begin with.
