Kakumeiki Valvrave episode 6 focuses on Saki who becomes the second pilot of a Valvrave that she names Carmilla. Her Valvrave is green with high agility and discs that she throws. Saki has been shown to be the at times haughty idol girl, but in this episode we are given some insight into the way she is. Saki’s first act after having a joyride in her new mech is to try out her body switching powers on Haruto. She uses his new found celebrity status to enhance her status online. While she is being confronted about it the school finds out that they are surrounded by Dorssian forces and will not be able to keep up their threat of giving away the Valvrave to ARUS. Saki takes Carmilla out to show off her new powers by blowing up a lot of ordinary fighters and one of the special enemy characters.
Saki’s motivation to become a pilot in Kakumeiki Valvrave is totally selfish. Saki wants to be a huge star and show her family that abused her and the people who did not like her as an idol that she is great. Everything she does through the whole episode after she gets her mech is to make herself more famous. Even helping out her school is not for them. This does not make her very likeable to me. I hope they lighten up her selfish drive in the future. Wanting to get away from abuse is understandable, but the people in show business were shown as the same amount of evil for not wanting her to stay. They did not even show them doing anything wrong just saying her contract is terminated, which not everyone can make it as a star. That does not make the people behind it evil. If the writers wanted the viewer to feel sorry for Saki they did a poor job of it.
The way that Kakumeiki Valvrave is going I am not sure what kind of ending we can expect. This is the halfway point of the series and their are still three more mechs that should have pilots by the end. If the other episodes are like this one then each of those episodes will be dedicated to talking about the pilot’s motivation and then showing off the mech in action. That would take up half of what is left of the series. Hopefully they will either tone done the introduction for each mech or this show will get another season. If the show continues the way it is going now it will feel like they just got the group together when it is time to end the show.
