Kakumeiki Valvrave 2 starts by finishing the battle between Haruto and Cain. During the battle Cain in unit 02 exposes the engine of unit 01 and the AI for both models manifest. Cain’s model overheats and he retreats with all his units. Later the school’s module makes it to the moon and the group gets support from Earth, but they need to go down to Earth itself to handle matters. Haruto is trying have his body experimented on to find out what is going on so that he does not attack anyone else. When the Valvraves break down L-elf figures out that it is due to lack of runes. Haruto has to attack others to keep the Valvraves running, but from now on he will only attack L-elf. Haruto hopes to find a way to end the curse once and for all. When the group tries to go down to Earth the show play flashbacks that explain why Akira is so withdrawn. The group makes it down to Earth, but they are in Dorssian territory.
Kakumeiki Valvrave is back with more antics, but so far this season does not have quite the same feel. The story has less crazy parts coming out of nowhere. Along with the story behind Akira it has the effect of making Kakumeiki Valvrave feel more serious. Hopefully this is just a short term problem because I liked the show being off the wall and badly written last season. Not to say it is well written now, but it is mostly normal fighting with no special quirks like cooling off the mechs with ocean water.
Haruto’s decision to lock himself away to keep from attacking people finally helped to arrive at the answer to why he was attacking people. It really helps to have some kind of reasoning behind it besides that he is no longer human. Now that he knows what is going on he will be able to control it and not have drama all the time about it. Having Haruto power all the Valvraves does not make a lot of sense, but I don’t think they will ever explain why only one person is needed to fuel all of them.
The whole length of the show the major villain has been the Dorssian empire, but now they reveal that it is bigger than that. There is a behind the scenes council that is made up of people like the pilots that can trade places with others by biting them. The Valvraves were apparently a plot of theirs that the Dorssians messed with. Now one of the council has taken the place of the ruler of the Dorssians. This makes things more complicated than before since the people that appear to be in power may not always be. It does make sense that there are more people like the pilots, if there were not then how would they even make people like the pilots? Hopefully the pilots realize what is going on eventually, so they know not to trust anyone to be who they say they are.
The Valvraves being mass produced was only a matter of time. Not very surprising.
