KAG Review

KAG is coming to Steam soon. Very soon in fact. In fact this is happening on October 26th. We’ve been informed that it’s actually pretty much done. They’re just polishing up a few things for the full release on Steam and we can review it for you. We have enjoyed this game in earlier versions so we expect much the same from this one.

The Updated Gameplay of KAG

As we’ve mentioned in other articles this game is a side scrolling platformer meets Minecraft and Rampart. In other words it’s awesome. This version is all of that plus more ways to blow up your opponent. This means things like updated boats and catapults among other things. If you have played it before it is the same base game, just more of it. There are also tons of new modes and they even have some single player maps set up. This game has a lot of flexibility in that area.

The New Art and Music

The details on the characters and the music have also been improved. Some in subtle ways, some in major. Overall it is a serious improvement over the classic game. Even down to the explosions it mixes retro style with nice shading and coloring.

The Sheer Appeal of King Arthur’s Goal

Everything else aside there is a certain special appeal for it. From digging under an enemy castle to blow it up to rapidly building your own castle the action has a lot of variety. It’s also a great game to play with gaming communities as things get hilarious when you have everyone in a voice server. More than anything else this really caused us to love the game.

5/5: KAG, King’s Awesome Game

The hardest thing about writing a review for KAG was finding something wrong with it. Here is what we came up with:

  • It doesn’t have AAA graphics. Boo hoo.
  • The gameplay is not completely original in every possible way
  • It doesn’t give me a back massage
  • It is not a cerebral thriller with heartrending plot twists

As you can see we couldn’t come up with much. We enjoy the 2D graphics. We love the mix of gameplay that has been updated. It mixes many styles into a coherent and innovative whole. If you’re looking for more than this from an indie title your standards are just too high. Enjoy this game for what it is because it is nothing short of being damn fun. If you want to get your copy you can wait for it on Steam or get a version here. They will of course be giving Steam codes to those who buy early.
