Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 35

In this episode the humor of part 3 shows up. This really adds something great to the overall story of Stardust Crusaders.

The Rundown for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 35

After the discovery that Kakyoin is a traitor Jotaro is hanging out away from the group. A man steals Kakyoin’s wallet and gets a brutal beating. Afterwards Kakyoin begins acting extremely weird towards everyone.

Things get really odd when Kakyoin starts rolling a cherry around on his tongue and this leads to one of the funniest jokes in the series later on.

Jotaro is almost pushed off a ledge by him and realizes something is very wrong. They board a rail car for a confrontation. Jotaro smashes him with a brutal punch. Soon after it is revealed that it isn’t Kakyoin at all but an enemy stand user. His stand is called rubber soul and it can be used both to disguise himself and devour things.

Jotaro gets covered in it and all his attempts to remove the stand are for nothing. He can’t even damage it normally. However he uses Joseph’s strategy of running away but still manages to drag the stand and user with him.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 35 Rubber Soul Begging

After being cornered by Jotaro and almost drowned he begs for his life. He reveals that the man Polnareff is looking for is among Dio’s henchmen and some other info. However this is all a trick and after he is let go Rubber Soul attacks Jotaro again and nearly crushes him. Unfortunately for him Jotaro hits a pipe so hard that he knocks the user silly with sheer water pressure. This time he isn’t going to fall for it and he pummels the villain mercilessly.

The episode ends with a hilarious section where Kakyoin proves that he too is really weird when he rolls a cherry across his tongue just like Rubber Soul did.

Thoughts on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 35

Araki really showed that he could do humor with this as well and lightened up a bit from parts 3-4. In my opinion this was what made them so great. It is odd though that the guy only calls himself Rubber Soul and his stand is Yellow Temperance. But I guess Oingo Boingo isn’t much better later on.

As far as the show itself the censoring has been rather strange. You can still tell something really bloody is happening but they cover some of it up. We’re not sure that’s totally effective but it’s better than butchering the series.

Another note is on animation. While it was mostly good the animation did have some small spots where they seems to put in less effort, it was strange.
