Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 17 Review

Episode 17 covers one of my favorite parts of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Battle Tendency arc. Joseph and Caesar take their final tests. However that is not why it is exciting. Let us go over that right now.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 17 Time for the final lesson

The episode starts up with the red stone of Aja. Fun fact, some old translations had it down as the red stone of Asia. But anyway the main villains need the stone to obtain ultimate power. The heroes need it to destroy the villains. Lisa Lisa is sworn to protect it from Cars.

Caesar easily defeats his master in a trial. It has to be called off to protect the Super Aja stone. However when Joseph gets to his test he finds his master dead. He also finds a new testing partner. ACDC himself has decided to deal with matters personally. Joseph is a little outmatched but won’t let it stop him.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 17 ACDC Phantom Blaze

While he literally disarms ACDC early on the fight goes poorly a bit later. ACDC reveals that he has literal burning blood. He uses tendrils to inject superheated blood into people and burn them. The two play a cat and mouse game with rope and tendrils. ACDC thinks he has one when Joseph reveals that he not only used his hat as a rope, but played a trick with it. ACDC is confined and pumped with Hamon energy. The resulting explosion is spectacular.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 17 goes by too soon. Maybe.

This was one of my favorite training arcs ever in any manga. I kept wanting to see more of it. But now that I think about it I may have been wrong. It may have been because it went by so fast and was so action-packed that I enjoyed it. If it had dragged out further it may have gotten bad. Looking at Steel Ball Run it had the opposite problem. That series dragged on too long without enough happening.

A note on the visuals in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 17

They seemed to use the harsh color changes less here. This was an excellent change. Everything looked great this episode, from the island to the spikes that were fought atop. I hope that this is yet another step in the right direction.

Properly established gore

As you can see above, this episode has some nice gore. It is not overstated as in some shows. However the viewer can clearly tell that something very bad is happening. I like that they do not go too far. I think it is what Araki would probably like to see. Although he does have a penchant for writing horror, so who can say?

Why it is hard to write about Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Unfortunately it is very hard to write about this show because everyone knows what will happen. We know the ending and know that the original is great. However it is no less important that a great series like this gets more attention. So we are going to stick with it here at Nerd Age. We hope the quality stays up.
