In Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita episode 4 the main character, assistant and Y start out stuck in a manga panel with no idea how to get out. Soon they figure out that drama opens the next panel, that they are supposed to be making the background, and that they need to be popular with the audience. Towards the end they have totally started pandering to the audience with no regard for story or the future of the manga. This leads to the decline of the manga.
Putting Y in charge of the direction the manga was going to go in was probably not the best idea. Y decided to go style over substance which did not help in the long run. People like to see something new and be shocked, but if the shocks are all unrelated they are going to figure it out eventually. Yes sometimes there are a lot of loose ends at the end of a manga that you don’t know they will not tie up until the end, but she added too much. Also in order to make the loose ends look like they might eventually get resolved you have to visit them more than one time. Y should have made a story that would be easy to put a lot of twists and turns into like a soap opera. Then people would be interested in seeing what happened even if there was not a shock every panel. The readers would have feelings for the characters and what happened to them. This just shows though that if all you care about is ratings you can take your manga or any form of media in a bad direction.
Even before Y saw the ratings though she tried too many different kinds of stories. They should have stuck with the main character’s suggestion and picked a genre to begin with. I do not know how they got from all those different genres down to the story they had at the end. They could have probably picked something better, but the whole time they were taking the easy way out. That is why they did something different all the time. It is harder to keep one story interesting for the readers for a long time.
It took the group a while to figure out everything they could do with the manga and how to exploit it.
The ending to this episode of Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita was pretty anticlimatic. All the build up about what would happen if they did not have a successful manga and nothing really happens. Having to work for the family business is not so bad. I at least expected some lasting consequences from the manga.
The last story arc in Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita had a much stronger ending than this one. I hope the next story arc is more interesting than this one. I am not bored, but I hope this isn’t going downhill from the first part of the story already.
