What is the New, Old Gaming Trend?

Today we want to talk about Inquisitor and how it relates to a trend. This is a trend we’re calling the “New, Old Gaming Trend.” When we mention this it refers to older games being repackaged as new. We are seeing this trend a lot in games from Path of Exile to Inquisitor.

While talking about gaming trends, it would be remiss to not mention gaming accessories and peripherals. While some gamers may prefer a backlit keyboard with liner switches (which, by the way, can be purchased from Kinetic Labs and similar online shops), and anti-ghosting keys, others may choose a mouse with multiple sensitivity settings for better gameplay. The latter can prove useful when playing a fast-paced RPG like Inquisitor. Therefore, being aware of subject matters such as “What Is Mouse Acceleration” or “What Is the Right DPI Setting” becomes important for any gamer wishing to get ahead of the curve.

Old games such as Diabo 2 have found new life in the gaming market. Companies release remastered versions of a lot of old games with updated graphics and some new features. This added with the nostalgia factor makes them sell like crazy. Games like Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition have all sold really well, especially with the added MMO features to some of them. The Good Side of the New, Old Gaming Trend

The upside is that they rarely leave the game as it was. Usually there are a variety of additions. Let us see what this gaming trend brings to the table:

• Upgraded skill trees
• New ways to use items such as gems
• New ways to craft
• Upgrades to the User Interface
• The best ones also significantly upgrade the gameplay
• Very inexpensive prices for the games themselves

Path of Exile is one such example of this. They created a huge new skill tree. They made a lot of the aspects of inventory easier to use.

The Negatives of the New, Old Gaming Trend

Of course it is obvious that there are substantial negatives in many of these games. Here are just a few:

• Many of these games are released with bugs, but today that is standard even for AAA titles
• They often skimp on graphics
• Many of them do not add significantly to the gameplay
• Even those that do, do not innovate the game industry

Inquisitor and the New, Old Gaming Trend

Inquisitor is perhaps the best example of this trend. It is a new game with an old style. That style is similar to Baldur’s Gate. It is currently on GOG and may go to Steam as well. It sells itself on the nostalgia since is has less-than-stellar scores of around 80. It also meets most of the criteria we mentioned. In both positive and negative ways.

What sets the New, Old Gaming Trend Apart

What really sets it apart is the fact that sites are promoting it. Good Old Games used to only do older games. Not only will Inquisitor be on Steam, but many other games are as well. Now they do new games, indie games and much more. This trend of selling new games on the popularity of old ones is nothing new. Promotion in this manner is something new. So keep an eye on this new way that gaming itself is changing.
