Indie Royale has started doing something a bit different. Serious Sam is the first in what they are calling Lightning Packs. It gathers together the original games and several games from other indie developers into an electrifying package.
Before we go down the package, let’s go down some history for Croteam. Originally an indie team themselves, they hit it big with Serious Sam. They made quite a bit of money off their various sequels and can now only be called indie in the loosest sense. Now they’re taking the game to Indie Royale.
They also made it a habit to allow others to use their properties. This edition of Indie Royale is a collection of games from other indie developers using the Serious Sam property.
Now you can get all of these games for one low price. At the time of the writing you could get these games for $4.20. Let’s go down what these games are and how they might appeal to you:
- Serious Sam: The Random Encounter – An RPG-style game with a unique active combat system. You partially control the various characters as they fight the hordes. This game comes from Vlambeer, maker of the very fun Super Crate Box.
- Serious Sam Double D – A platformer version of Serious Sam. It also features a crazy multi-gun system in which Sam stacks several guns on top of each other. This is from Mommy’s Best Games, this being their most significant game thus far.
- Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack – You get to play as Serious Sam’s minor annoyance, the Kamikaze. You aren’t any ordinary “Kaze” though, because you can slap back weapons at Sam. This time the underdog is going to win.
- Serious Sam: The First and Second Encounter – These are the games that started it all, and you can get them for a very inexpensive price now.
- Serious Sam: The Greek Encounter – A top-down shooter in the style of Contra. It’s an interesting change of pace.
As usual you can get all of these at Indie Royale, for a fluctuating price tag.
