While we don’t usually cover apps, we do cover charity. 12indieapps.com is hosting it’s own group of games that they will be donating money individually from.
Indie apps are all the rage these days, so it’s only normal for them to have a charity event. Twelve different developers have pledged to give 25% of the sales of their games on 12indieapps.com to Child’s Play and Doctors without Borders. Here is some background for those unfamiliar with these organizations:
Child’s Play helps entertain sick children throughout the world. They bring video games to kids in hospitals so that their ordeal can be a little easier.
Doctors without Borders helps people and children all over the world. They go into some of the most dangerous parts of Africa that need help the most.
The companies involved have been in the industry for quite some time. Some of those involved in Ludum Dare are even participating, such as Skyhronics. But what about the games themselves?
- Red Nova – A space shooter with an interesting way to play.
- Trainyard – A fun puzzle game, with some mechanics that are similar to pipe puzzles you may have seen on game boy.
- Sword of Fargoal – A roguelike RPG in the same vein as stone soup. It also features random maps.
- Christmas Air Hockey – Well it’s, air hockey, at Christmas!
- Disc Drivin’ – You are a disc. You must pilot your disc through a Mario Kart style course.
- Velocispider – Space invaders meets mechanical monstrosities.
- Full Deck Word Games – Multiplayer word games of various shapes and sizes.
- Harbor Master – A game where you direct boats, but things get shaken up by monsters, pirates and more.
- Tilt to Live – A strange form of shooter, but with some very fun controls.
- Galcon Labs – A real time puzzle-strategy game. Think quickly or lose.
- iBlast Moki – A simple but fun puzzler with explosions.
- Smiles HD – A matching puzzle game similar to Bejeweled.
These “Indie Apps” are all good for a distraction, and you will of course be helping charities. Check them out.
