Happy Cloud is a new cloud-based PC gaming service. Their publications promise instant play without a need for long downloads. However we are curious just as to how this is all going to work and whether they can make good on their promises. In this article we want to explore why that is with you.
What is Happy Cloud Promising?
They are claiming that they can bring a new type of online gaming distribution service. Quoting their press release tells us that they want “to play games instantly without typical long download times, painful installation processes, or in-game lag.” A lot of vagaries and generalities are being tossed out about excellent speed and high quality. We visited their site but just found a static page at the time of this writing. After checking a bit they have quite a bit more up but they need to re-do how some of their pages are accessed.
So how are they saying they can deliver this? They want to use the Akamai platform. Go Daddy uses this system for some of their work. Which begs the question of how well this solution will work considering the quality of Go Daddy? On the other hand if Akamai can really bring them impressive speeds they can use the cloud to deliver near-instant results for PC gamers. It appears to use a highly similar system to OnLive which means it will probably work.
Happy Cloud Receives Funding
However many people are banking on the idea that the Akamai platform can handle the load and speeds needed. Many investors have lined up $4.25 million during their series A fundraising. They used the funds to hire on new members of the team. It appears that the site should have the funds it needs to deliver. We are watching the entire thing with intense interest.
