GOG.com is partnering with several charities for their latest event. In this one they are working with the WWF, Worldbuilders and Gaming for Good. There are many reasons why any company would do this that we’ll go over for you today.
The GOG Charity Event Itself
The event itself is quite simple. You pick from a few games featured here and choose the ones you want. You get a discount, the charity makes some money and GOG makes some money. Many different sites have followed this formula in the past. GOG says their group is dedicated to spending additional money in order to make sure 100 percent of the fees go to the organization.
The New GOG Interest in Charities
Many of you out there are probably wondering why GOG has a newly found interest in charities. Without gaining private access to their books there are a few reasons that other sites do it. While we can’t say for sure why we can give you a good idea why others do this. Here are a few:
- Positive PR is worth incalculable amounts in the grand scheme of things. It also creates a positive publicity buzz all around.
- Tax incentives for carrying the funds from donators to the charity. Many businesses use this to make money.
- Events drive sites and get new people coming in. It could be something as simple as that.
Of course it remains to be seen why they have this new interest. We just know that they do and we will likely see more gaming companies running similar events if this is successful. It would be interesting to see a Steam charity sale.
