Gameglobe - Making games (too) quick and easy. - Nerd Age

Gameglobe seeks to create an environment where making games is easy. A fun, casual environment quite a bit divorced from in-depth creation. In this article we will be going over the type of site Gameglobe is. What it means for the industry and if there is a future for this type of site. It does appear that they will have some impact.
What is Gameglobe?
Gameglobe is a place where you can make short games. You can share these and play the games of others. What sets it apart is that they are trying to make it easy. They have a general user interface which allows you to easily create. Obviously this has little to do with the hard coding. All of that is already done for you. However it is an interesting diversion.
The history of sites like Gameglobe
Historically sites like this have been popular. User-created content is one of the best ways to make a site popular. Do users want to put in even the minimal effort needed? Some certainly do. It seems like this site could be a good starting point for very young users. Be sure not to mistake this for real design though.
Who runs Gameglobe?
Square Enix and Bigpoint work together to run this. This is an interesting side venture for the famous Square Enix. We are seeing many famous companies trying to branch out. The industry is changing right before our eyes. Users in new mobile and tablet markets want more casual games. Combine this with old properties losing favor, and you have a total shakeup. Even Megaman is going away.
The final word on Gameglobe
Gameglobe, for better or worse, is looking profitable. On the positive side it may turn some people on to design. On the negative side it is a far cry from real game design. We are going to have to call this particular site a wash in our view. Check it out for yourself if you are interested.
