The Forest Early Access Info

Everyone is searching for the next great formula for zombie survival after Day Z. The Forest adds some elements to that game style which are making people in the press take notice. What are those? We’re going to explore that with you right now.

The Story in The Forest

You are the lone survivor of a jet crash. Unfortunately you aren’t alone and must try to find shelter and food in a habitat with both wildlife and strange mutant creatures.

The Creatures in The Forest

The models shown so far are flesh-heaps of mutants. Some of them are just tangles of limbs. As far as enemies go these do in fact look fairly horrifying so we’ll be keeping our eye on the game. Their methods of attack so far seem to just be the standard rampaging and flailing you would expect. Hopefully by the end we’ll see some other methods.

The Base Gameplay of The Forest

At base it has what you would expect from a survival game. A living world with creatures which act with or without you. Resource gathering and shelter building. Many other games have that but thankfully there are a few interesting additions to the genre.

What Sets The Forest Apart

So at base it seems like most other games in the genre. What sets it apart is they take a more realistic approach to fishing, hunting and chopping wood. Birds will rest on your hand at one point. You can fish with a spear if you are accurate enough. Chopping down a tree will cause it to fall realistically.

The other place where it stands out is in the enemies. The tribe of mutants may be horrifying but in the final game they’ll have their own beliefs, personalities and culture. This could really change how people see the normally mindless hordes in the genre.

Supporting The Forest

Right now the game is on Steam Early Access for $14.99. So if it sounds like it has potential to you then go ahead and buy it. You should of course look at the game yourself and make your own decisions on whether this will change the genre.
