It claims to bring transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to your gaming room. Why did it stand out to us? It has such a weird design and claims to deliver a level of current that is not dangerous. Let us explore those claims.
What does Foc.us do?
At base it’s a set of electrodes that you strap to your head. It runs a small amount of current through that area which is supposed to increase your overall thought processes. The idea is that you will think more quickly and clearly with it.
The Science Behind tDCS
Surprisingly enough there is quite a bit of evidence that a small amount of current can improve your overall thought processes. Devices like this have existed for years upon years. This particular one is supposed to only deliver a dose of energy mild enough to clear your head a bit. In the past much more severe shocks have been used to unfortunate effect on people. Of course that hasn’t been standard practice for some time.
Is Foc.us Worth it?
We would have to argue not really unless you absolutely always have to have the latest gadget. At $249 it’s a bit pricy for technology that has been used in sports medicine, in different forms, for years upon years. Some of you may have even used a very similar device on your muscles while training. And well, we already have the Oculus if you want to look ridiculous.
Of course if you are someone who has to have things like this then you can check out their site and have one shipped. It is interesting to note that gaming has grown and become so mainstream that we now have a gimmick market for it. Well, a much larger one than the days of the virtual boy.
