Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is the story of a studious girl meeting a bad boy and then hijinks ensue.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun starts by introducing the problem that Haru had at the beginning of school getting into a fight. This lead to his suspension and Shizuku gets stuck taking him his work from school. After Haru finds out that Shizuku is not a spy he automatically considers her a friend. Without meaning to Shizuku helps Haru to find out that his friends are using him, which makes him believe that he loves her. Haru goes to school just to see Shizuku, but he starts to get on her nerves. It all works out though when Shizuku figures out that she likes having Haru around.
The story from the first episode feels mostly complete. Both the main characters know that they feel something for each other. If this was a one shot manga it would totally end with this episode. I am really unsure where this series is going to go from here. There is a large amount of characters in the opening though so I would assume that after this episode they focus on something besides the relationship between Haru and Shizuku.
Haru is a pretty unbelievable character in Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. He does not seem to know anything about school, or a lot of different things. Also he is a tough guy, but a smart one. I do not understand how they are making him naive, tough, and intelligent all at the same time. There is no explanation of why he seems so clueless either. Just because you do not have friends does not mean you are naive.
Overall the characters are pretty interesting and there are a lot of ways that the story could go, so I am still interested in this show for now.
