First Impressions: Teekyu and Uchurei!

Teekyu

Teekyu is another show with a bunch of cute girls in a club. This time the club is tennis. Hope you are not trying to learn anything about tennis from this show because they are goofing off the whole time. All the jokes in this episode are about Kanae trying to learn to play tennis. She is not taking it seriously though and pissing off her teacher. It is not really funny to me.

The art style for this show is pretty bad at some points. Overall it is all over the place because they switch how they are drawing it from second to second. At one point Kurae looks like she has a super long torso, but that never comes up again. This is not unusual for a short show like this, but I still do not like it.

Overall the jokes were not all that funny to me, the art styles are unattractive, and Teekyu just seems like a poor man’s Sofutenni.

Long torso is long.

Uchurei!

Uchurei! starts at a temple with a girl and a boy during summer break. While the boy is looking at the sky he notices a UFO falling and runs towards where it is falling. He finds the alien and brings it back to the girl. The girl decides since it has no pulse or temperature that it must be a ghost. Even after it shows every sign of being an alien the girl ties a headpiece on it and calls it a space ghost.

Uchurei! is a short show and it does not appear to have much of a story going on. Most of the emphasis of this episode was watching the alien be cute or do funny things. I expect that it will be similar in later episodes as well. I hope they cut down on the girl’s inability to admit she is wrong later on though. The space ghost thing was just stupid and not funny.

Uchurei! like Teekyu has horrible art, but it is consistently bad instead of all over the place. The lines are all wobbly. There is very little shading. The art reminds me of someone’s sketches more than an anime. I could easily find animation of this quality in America. Since the story and jokes for the show are not good it has no saving grace.

Overall unless you love aliens that are called ghosts to appease know-it-all young girls, you should skip this show.
