Tamako Market is about a young girl that is the daughter of a mochi shop owner and a self centered talking bird that she finds one day in a flower shop.
My synopsis will be in letter form from the perspective of Mochimazzi.
Dear Prince,
During my journey to find your bride, I happened to fall asleep in a field of flowers. When I awoke I was being spied on and immediately attacked. The girl responded by seducing me immediately, and being the kind soul I am I let her go and accompanied her. The girl took me back to her home where I explained that I was looking for your bride. I bestowed upon the girl the gift of my presence and she was overjoyed. Later we all went to the bath and I saw the most marvelous sight. When I went to join the girl at the bathhouse, she was so overcome that she could not keep me near her. Somehow I ended up rooming with a pervert after that, but I quickly gave him the slip. I found my young lady again and heard of her tragic past with her mother. I nobly offered to console her and let her cry on my breast. She only declined because she did not want to muss my feathers. In order to fufill her dream of having people eat her family’s mochi, I sacrificed my perfect body eating lots of the girl’s mochi. I realized I needed to proceed on my quest for you my highness, so I broke that poor girl’s heart by telling her I was leaving. She even tried to bribe me with freshly made mochi, but I stood strong against it. She was very persistant, so I took a bite for her. I was persuaded to stay a bit longer, but I will be looking for your bride very soon.
Your Loyal Servant,
Mochimazzi
The characters for Tamako Market are mostly pretty generic except for Mochimazzi. Mochimazzi is the most important character because he is the one that makes this show not just another slice of life show with cute girls. Mochimazzi has more personality than the rest of the cast combined.
The character designs are typical Kyoto Animation designs with all the characters looking super cute. Tamako and Anko are the cutest by far though.
The comedy from this show mostly revolves around Mochimazzi’s take on what is going on and his relationship with Tamako. The best part with him was when he was looking into the girl’s side of the bath.
Overall this show could be pretty good if they keep the focus on Mochimazzi and keep the slice of life parts secondary. The second episode should show if they are sticking with that or changing the focus to the girl Tamako. This show turned out a lot better than I thought it would and is one of the better shows I have seen this season.
Status: Still Watching
