Silver Spoon is about a city boy from Sapporo who has joined an agricultural school to get away from his parents. Yugo has a lot of preconceived notions about farming and what school will be like. Yugo comes in believing that he will be able to blow everyone out of the water in academics, but comes to find out that the other students are more advanced than him in certain subjects. He also has to come to terms with how certain food items come from the animal and still be able to eat. During his time in class and hanging out with others Yugo finds out that working on a farm is not the only difference between himself and the others because they all have a dream.
Before Silver Spoon came out I read as much of the manga as I could and really enjoyed it. I was afraid to watch the anime because I was worried it would not do the manga justice. While it is weird to see the show, it is pretty close to the manga and a good watch so far.
My only complaint about the transition between from manga to anime are the character designs. It is natural that they have lost some of the detail that the originals had, but without the detail it is sometimes hard to pick out the different characters. That would not be as much of a problem if they had not made most of the cast have black or brown hair. I know this is more realistic, but it makes it harder to pick out characters this way. I wish there were more hair colors for the cast.
Overall Silver Spoon so far is pretty close to the original source which is a great manga. If you have given it a chance and it is not your thing give it a bit more time. It gets better.
