Sasami-san@Ganbaranai is about a girl named Sasami that will not leave her house. While she will not leave the house, she does want to check up on her brother and has him under surveillance. The two of them do not have a normal brother and sister relationship. Kamiomi does whatever his sister wants him and has an unnatural obsession with her. Sasami acts indifferent to him, but she likes him as much as he likes her. Things are not all as they seem though because the two of them have been sharing the powers of the god Amaterasu. What they wish can effect the real world and the Yagami sisters help to get things back under control after their wishes take effect.
I am very glad I waited until after the second episode to write about Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. The first episode was left without an explanation for what was going on for impact. The only impact it had on me was wondering what I had just watched. The first episode looks like it will be a mindfuck show, but it is misleading. By the second episode it even seems like it might be formulaic. Something strange will happen to the group every episode and it will be a misuse of the godly powers which the Yagami sisters will help them to correct. If you decide to watch this show watch the first two episodes together and it will make a lot more sense.
Sasami-san@Ganbaranai has done some nice things with their characters. Kamiomi never shows his face and I had been hoping since I saw the PV that they were going in that direction. The different ways he keeps his appearance hidden are pretty amusing. Also the appearances that are at odds with the personalities and ages of the Yagami sisters are nice.
The artstyles of the different areas of Sasami-san@Ganabaranai can be pretty striking. Inside Sasami’s room has a more dreamlike quality to it. Outside the world has a more crisp realistic feeling about it.
Overall this show is not too bad for a show that was originally looking like it would just be about incest. Hopefully the godly powers will take precedence over things of an incestual nature. If not this show could go downhill fast.
