Sankarea is a show about a boy who is only attracted to the undead.
Sankarea starts with a boy named Chihiro who loves zombies. I don’t mean he loves watching the movies, I mean he wants to make out with a zombie. He is looking for an undead girlfriend, but their aren’t many of those lying around. One day his cat is killed and Chihiro is so broken up about it that he uses a special book to try to resurrect his cat. While he is in the process he sees the most beautiful girl from the girls’ school near his school yelling personal information about her family into a well. Chihiro and Rea Sanka end up spending time talking about things and the topic of Chihiro loving zombies comes up. Rea asks him if she becomes a zombie if he would take responsibility?
Sankarea is a strange show. The topic is just shy of very inappropriate or if you think about it not shy at all. What else does he want to do with his zombie? Also it brings up another taboo sexual practice within the show as well. Hopefully it will not elaborate on the topics any further than it has or things might get pretty uncomfortable. As is the show stays for me on the right side of comfort for now.
The character designs for this show are kind of weird. Chihiro hair for one has a very odd shape to it that annoys some. I like it thought because it reminds me of cat ears. Also Chihiro’s family mostly looks like zombies themselves in one way or another. Especially the grandfather who I expect to ask for brains at dinner.
Why isn't he a zombie?
The character of the cousin who was all pushy and seems to want into Chihiro’s pants is pretty annoying. Hopefully she won’t show up too much. She is obviously not desired by Chihiro since she has a pulse.
Overall this show has left me wanting more. The weird attractions, character designs and pushy cousin don’t stop me from being very curious about what is going to happen next. Also I found it pretty enjoyable so far despite those things.
