Pupipo!
Pupipo! is about a girl named Wakaba that can see ghosts. A classmate that is interested in the occult asked to be her friend and other girls tell Reiko not to befriend Wakaba. Reiko defends Wakaba by saying that all the things that they said would happen from becoming friends with Wakaba are all coincidences. Reiko hangs around Wakaba even though Wakaba is not all that interested in being friends. Wakaba wonders if Reiko would want to be friends if she knew Wakaba could really see ghosts. The show ends with Wakaba finding a weird ‘pet’ in a box.
From what I understand the anime version of Pupipo! does not follow the manga strictly skipping some parts of the manga. The show may get around to them later, but this may annoy people who have read the original source material. Also if you do not already know Pupipo! is a short anime show.
The premise seems interesting, but the short format does not give a lot of time to get involved in the story. The main character so far seems pretty bland, but she could get better later. Right now the highlights are Reiko and the ghosts. I like both of them because they do not give a crap.
Status: Not Sure. It was not an outstanding show, but it seems like it needs more time to tell the story. I will give it another shot for now.
Double Circle
There is no point saying what the story is in Double Circle because it does not explain anything. It only leaves the viewer with tons of questions. There are aliens out of nowhere, super suits, and enemies with no build up or explanation at all. They could have dedicated the time to helping the viewer to understand what is going on, but they instead spend what little time they have trying to hold a dull birthday party when they are not showing the Toshiba logo.
Double Circle is what happens when a company like Toshiba is behind the making of an anime. Everywhere you look there are Toshiba logos and one of the characters even works at Toshiba. Obviously their first thoughts were not on what makes a good show as much as what makes a quick buck. The city of Kawasaki is not much better either. Between hearing about Kawasaki and looking at Toshiba the whole show feels like an advertisement for the both of them.
The ending of the show is the most frustrating piece of this horrible show. Just when the action is starting they cut it off, so the viewer is left very disappointed. It is not even a proper cliffhanger it just cuts off the action.
The best part of the show are the character designs by the same person who did designs for Gatchaman Crowds.
Overall the show gives no reason to come back and watch it. I might have been interested in the outcome of the fight if there had been an reason behind it, but there wasn’t.
