Psycho-Pass is a futuristic show where technology has advanced to the point where it can scan people and decide if they are likely to commit crimes. The show follows the CID who hunt down latent criminals that have cloudy psycho-passes.
Psycho-Pass is a “big brother is watching you” style of story. The story is told from the perspective of the people enforcing the rule of government on the populace. It is not the most original premise, but the perspective gives it a bit of a different look about how people feel about taking people in for what their thoughts are like.
Akane the new inspector has to find out what it means to do her job. She has trouble reconciling helping the public with killing people who have yet to do anything. She does not believe that the safety of the majority outweighs the rights of the few like most of the veterans she works with. Akane has trouble justifying herself to people hardened by the work that they are doing even with results showing she was right.
The art of Psycho-Pass is mostly very dark when Akane is at work. If she is doing something casually though, the coloring is lighter. I enjoyed the contrast they did there. It really helped with the tone for different portions of the show.
The worst part of Psycho-Pass is that adults are not the only ones taken into custody as threats. It is revealed that even as a child they are taken in and isolated their whole lives based on what the Psycho-Pass says. That is not acceptable.
Overall there is not anything glaringly wrong with this show. Many people are enjoying it, but I find it too depressing to watch innocent people get taken into forced therapy, isolation, or various other things that can ruin their lives.
Status: Not Watching because this show is too depressing for me.
