Maoyuu Maou Yuusha from the beginning seems like a typical fantasy story with a hero and questing party. Soon it departs from the formula when the hero leaves the party to meet the demon king alone. When the hero meets the demon king who turns out to be a girl, he finds out the true situation behind the war. After the hero learns what is really going on he joins up with the demon king. There are spoilers in this post.
The artwork for this series varies. The character designs are pretty average looking and do not really fit with the backgrounds. The backgrounds are fantastic and really make the world in the show come alive. If only they had put the same amount of effort into the characters as they did the backgrounds so they did not clash so much.
The politics portion of the show was kind of interesting, but did not make a lot of sense. For one thing how would the ruler of the kingdom the humans are fighting against know everything about their food supplies, reasons behind what they are doing, how the people in countries further out are acting and other things about the enemy. The demon king was pretty spot on about all the things the humans were doing, which hopefully will be explained more later. Also how would humanity be destroyed by starving if the war ended, but won’t be destroyed by constantly being killed during a war? The ways the demon king and hero are actually going to help with all this were pretty vague as well.
What are the actual differences between humans and demons in this show? They do not have any actual physical difference besides maybe usual hair and eye color. Is this war just like a racial thing and they do not really have any differences? It explains how they could claim demons did things that they did not do because they could claim anyone is a demon.
Overall I hope that the story gets better later on. This could be good if it is handled well or it could be funny if they mess it up.
