Kuroko no Basket is a mix of sports and slice of life anime. It does not really follow the same path as Hajime No Ippo. If anything, the slice of life elements are closest to Bleach back when it first came out. You know, the very brief time where Bleach had a story and was good.
The story of Kuroko no Basket
As with many sports shows, it begins with a floundering team. This team is quickly bolstered by a red-haired boy akin to a demon and a blue haired boy with stealth skills. There are also a variety of side characters such as the female manager and the stressed-out captain.
These two characters form an interesting dynamic. They are both rivals and form an odd couple pairing. The red one is actually the straight man always getting frustrated. And Kuroko is the pedantic goofy one. Well to be more accurate, he has a deadpan humor that frustrates people. Overall the character interaction in this show is very well done.
The art and music of basketball
The art, like most modern art, is good but nothing special. Shading and motion are all done well. However, the composition of the music is quite good. Even the casual track when they are finding people for the club is well done. Overall if one thing stands out for this series, it is the music. Overall the whole show is very well put together.
Status: Still watching
I believe that this particular show and many like it are overlooked by most nerds. It is only natural, as few of them had any interest in sports. Many reviews you see for this show will be from people who made their decision before watching it. However Kuroko no Basket is a real treat for slice of life fans or sports fans.
