Kotoura-san is about a girl named Kotoura with mind reading powers that she can not control. When Kotoura was little she did not understand what was going on and would talk about things that people were thinking. This hurt the people around her and made them mad. Everyone close to her left her due to having their secrets revealed. Kotoura eventually transfers to leave the area where everyone dislikes her. At her new school she meet Manabe who thinks her mind reading is cool and accepts her.
The story for Kotoura-san so far is not very good. They spent way too long lamenting how hard it is to be a mind reader at a young age when you do not know what is going on. Being a mind reader she should have known she was pissing people off before it got so bad. She should have stopped doing what she was doing before everyone was upset with her. The premise does not even make much sense and is way too overdramatic. It does not even seem to go along with what is supposed to happen. There is going to be a club to investigate her powers, and it is starting to be more light hearted. Why all the drama before the comedy?
How can a show go from the scene in the first picture to the scene in the second picture?
The character designs are too simplistic and cute to go with the tragic tone that has been set so far. It will fit a lot better if they keep on the more light hearted path they adopt later in the episode. The short character with the fish lips intrigues me and hopefully he will be interesting in the second episode.
Overall this show is too heavy handed so far. They did not need to be so forceful to make this sad. The whole thing could have been done a lot quicker and then moved on to the more important part of the show.
Status: Watching the next episode. Not very interested in the premise, but I want to find out about that short guy.
