The most anticipated anime of the season (for anyone with taste outside of their mouth) is out. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure once had an anime that was an absolute disaster. For some, it soured them on the series forever. This new series tries to redeem the show in anime format. Does it succeed? Come find out.
The Story of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
As one of the biggest fans of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure in the western world, I had high expectations. I know the main story and even side stories by heart. So how does it pan out? Very well. They stay very close to the original, core story of the franchise. If the first episode is any indication, there will maybe be some very minor parts left out that barely mattered to start with. All of the core characters are presented perfectly as they were in the story. This first part covers Dai Ichi Bu Jonathan Joestar: Sono Seishun, or Part 1 Jonathan Joestar: His Youth. It is more commonly known as the Phantom Blood arc.
The Art of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
While not cutting-edge or stunning, the art is clean and beautiful. They also include the signature sound effects in the air that the series is known for. This attention to detail and loyalty to the source material is truly stunning. The art was a major reason why the earlier third series failed, it was a disaster. Fortunately, they do a great job on the first series here. The art has changed from the original though. The art of the original manga was a bit over the top. Jonathan was basically a Moe Kenshiro.
The Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure adaptation itself
All of this is nice, but what good is it if the source material is not good? Do not worry there. The first series of Jojo is a macabre tale of manipulation, magic power and incredibly powerful vampires. We mean old school vampires, who die to sunlight but little else. As far as a story, the manga was one of the best pieces ever. The anime cannot fail if they continue being true to it.
Final Verdict: 5/5 Magnificent – As close to a perfectly crafted anime as you can get. It does not rely on flashy art, but simply the true power of the story. If you miss out on this one, you are missing out on arguably the best show of the season.
