Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince is about group of trainees that are called the fail five. They are doing the worst out of all the groups in training, but one day they are called upon to help evacuate an area and are given special mecha in order to do so. Everything turns out great with the operation, better than planned.
The first episode of Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince has weird pacing. There was apparently not enough time to introduce the characters normally. They all had to have a nameplate flash on screen. They did have time for mech paintball and showing the kids riding places while being offered suckers. I think they should have put more emphasis on making the characters memorable and less on the odd aspects.
The Gunner mech moving its head to get the target in sight was an interesting if unnecessary addition to the mech. The rest of the mechs range from boring to pointless. Why does the girl running the battle even have to be out there with them? She could do the same thing somewhere else and not be a liability.
I hope that Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince explains itself later for throwing kids into battle unprepared. Right now it is like the commander watched too much anime and thought that their best hope was to put kids in mechs they did not know how to use. It always works in anime, so why not? The way the kids went from totally incompetent to a fighting machine makes this whole show seem like a joke. Hopefully it is a joke otherwise it is just doing the same thing tons of other mech shows have done, but worse.
Overall the story is just made up of tons of cliches. As a whole though the show may turn out to be funny.
