First Impressions: Fantasista Doll and Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

Fantasista Doll

Fantasista Doll is about a girl named Uzume that is good enough with cards to win a big tournament. One day when she is on the train someone messes with her bag, but rather than stealing something they place a strange device in her bag. Later Uzume has strange things happen and she is sure that someone is coming after her. She runs away and hopes that someone will help her when a voice tells her that she will be helped for a price. After giving away a huge amount of personal information Uzume becomes the master of a girl with no clothes on that helps her to defeat her enemy.

Fantasista Doll is another show where the girls are collecting cards. This time the cards do not seem to hurt the real world, so there does not seem to be much drive for Uzume to stay as the master. Why would she keep the cards and stay in danger when they will not help her do anything except fight. She would not even need to fight if she would give up the cards. They could at least help her out some like Keroberos did for Sakura. Her motivation for sticking to this right now is sketchy at best.

Fantasista Dolls Lord Rafflesia

That is one creepy Tuxedo Mask knock off. He appears to be a mix between the creator of Angelic Layer and Tuxedo Mask.

It is hard to pinpoint what audience this show is going for. They have a magical girl which says it should be for a young girl, but then they have the dolls lounging around mostly nude for half the show. It appears that it is trying to sell a card game to girls, but then why all the fanservice directed towards men?

Overall this show could use a better story. There are many plotholes and the attention grab is weak unless you are into all the dolls in the bath together.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou is about Akira who aims to be a fortune teller like her mother. She uses the tarot deck that her mom left to her. Unfortunately bad things are happening around her like her cousin attacking her out of jealousy. While that appears to happen in a dream when Akira wakes up she finds her cousin’s dead body. Then she has to relive that same day, but without her cousin who no one remembers anymore. When her fortune telling friends have their house burned down Akira tries to use her magical girl powers to save them from the perpetrator, but she is not strong enough yet. She is saved by other magical girls.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou is yet another magical girl show where they are fighting cards. This one is themed after the tarot. The girls each have powers that go along with their tarot card. If it is even possible this one is more confusing than Fantasista Doll. There is a repeat of the day in the middle of the episode with no explanation. Did the cousin exist at all or was it just a card the whole time? Will time repeat each time a card is defeated?

The main character is an orphan doing her best despite adversity. She wants to do what her mother did and this sounds really familiar. The rest of the characters so far are mostly just there to admire her.

Overall once again the story is lacking.

Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou magical girls

Wow after my impressions yesterday of Fate/Kaleid and these shows today it seems like this season is overrun with either girls doing nothing or girls using powers to collect cards.
