Guilty Crown is a show about a boy in Japan. It takes place after a major disease has hit and decimated Japan. The help of many other countries was needed to help Japan recover from it. In this setting, Shu suddenly finds himself a part of a rebel organization going against the organization now in control of Japan, called GHQ.
In the beginning of Guilty Crown, the scenes switch between a music video and scenes of the girl from the music video getting away with something she stole. After she finally gets away, there is a break where we learn about the main character Shu and how he isn’t all that normal.
Then we finally get to see how Shu meets the girl and gets involved by delivering stolen goods for her. There is a big mecha battle at the end when the GHQ decides to kill everyone in the area in order to find the stolen goods.
First thing that I have to say about this show is I hope that Shu isn’t going to stay so emo. While I enjoyed Evangelion, we do not need a repeat of the super emo mecha character. Why must mecha and emo go hand and hand?
When he was going nuts because he didn’t think he was good enough for a girl who just got captured by the authorities I was starting to get mad. By the end of the episode he seemed to shake it off though.
The music in Guilty Crown is very unique. I think it is fitting for the show, but it not something I would listen to outside of the show. I kinda hope they try some different styles of music later on.
The story for Guilty Crown was pretty interesting. The disease making a country become the property of a major organization is different. It makes me wonder why the rebels are going against them. Most people would probably be afraid that the disease would not be fully taken care of if the organization left, so I really want to know the motivation.
I love this because during this time the main character is doing something important where he should be vulnerable. Instead of attacking they show mechs just standing waiting for him to be done. This is what it must look like when magical girls transform.
I don’t want to give the end of the episode away, but I am not quite able to suspend my disbelief enough for the end of this. Maybe at some point later it will be explained to my satisfaction, but not right now.
Status: Watching. Definitely one of the better shows I have seen this season.

These foreigners are ridiculously evil. International organizations never do this and the people of other countries would never support such murder. In fact, this is what the Japanese did to China and other Asian countries in world war 2. Isn’t this just Japanese xenophobia and hatred of foreigners?
