Tamayura: Hitotose is a slice of life anime about a girl who likes to take pictures.
The first episode of Tamayura: Hitotose is mostly just telling about how everything began. The main character, Yu’s father, died and she has hidden away all his old photographs. One day her sister has them out when she gets home and the photos touch her.
She decides to start taking photographs again. Yu decided to go to highschool in her old hometown which leads to her whole family moving there. By the end of the show she is living in a new place and has new friends which are barely introduced in this episode.
Well this episode is purely introductory, so it is hard to say much about this show already. One of the main characters from this episode, Yu’s crybaby friend, will not be showing up anymore.
At least if she does it shouldn’t be much. That is too bad because her whole characters for stuffed animals gimmick was weird and interesting. Yu spends most of the first episode exploring her new passion for photography and looking at old photographs.
The opening animation was really nice. I like the use of the photographs in it. Some of them were very beautiful. The ending had photographs that were shown during the episode in it. I am guessing that each episode they will change them to reflect what was shown that episode. It would be silly to use only pictures from the first episode the whole time.
Overall, so far this show is standard slice of life fare. Not too great, but not too bad. I think that the next few episodes will reveal more about how this show will go. I am going to update this post after the next episode to reflect how I feel then.
