First Impressions Fall 2011: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is a show about people who are unable to make friends for various reasons. In order to make friends, Yozora makes a club called the Neighbor’s Club where the whole purpose is to make friends.

When I heard about Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai coming out, I went and read the manga. So far this show stays pretty true to the manga. If it continues to do so, I think this show will be very good.

The first episode covered Kodaka finding Yozora talking to her air friend, which leads to the founding of the Neighbor’s Club. Then the first new member to the club joins. She isn’t the kind of person Yozora was hoping to recruit.

I had trouble making friends, not as much as these people, but I still feel for them. Yozora is pretty, but has a personality that puts people off. She takes control of the club and is pretty quirky, especially where friends are concerned.

Kodaka is considered a scary delinquent by others so they avoid him.  He isn’t really a delinquent though, he is just half English. The guy who looks like a delinquent  seems to be getting more popular, surprisingly.  Sena has a lot of guys that hang around her, but no friends. She has interesting ideas about how guys should act.

Step on you

"Bend over so I can step on you."

These characters together make an interesting dynamic for the show.

It is bad to say this, but one of the best things about this show is how pointless it all is. They get together to make friends or at least appear to have friends, but none of them seem to get along. They make a club and advertise to get something they don’t expect or want.

This show is an ecchi show, but if it follows the manga it won’t be piling the dirty jokes on as much as some shows do.

Status: It is a must see for me. I would definitely recommend this show.

Update: I now have a review of the full series up here.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai Desperate

You must be at least this desperate to join the Neighbor's Club.
