When I first saw this show I thought to myself, this is a ripoff of Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I was not far off of the mark. Arcana Famiglia is actually somewhere between the cheesiness of Katekyo Hitman Reborn and fangirl appeal of Hetalia or Inu X Boku.
The Story of Arcana Famiglia
The story centers around a vigilante group that protects a town. It consists of a ton of men and one female enforcer. The guys of course hit on her periodically. Their gangleader, Papa, is going to be retiring. They have to decide who will become the next godfather. Whoever wins also gets to marry his daughter. The girl, Felicita, does not want to get married. They also all have powers based on tarot cards. Such as the Fool, the Hermit (invisibility) and even Strength. The guys of course all want to marry the main character. Very few of them seem like they have any chance though. But the way shows go today they probably won’t have her pair up with anyone.
Terrible, but not completely Terrible
Some of the combat is well animated. Also, the guy with the eyepatch has a really nice voice. He provides some of the comic relief to the series. Mostly the show suffers from just terrible writing. Nearly everything is a cliche. Rivals, foolish boys and mafia culture have all been run into the ground. The story was just written by someone with no talent for writing. It reads like a bad fanfic of Hetalia and Katekyo.
But then shows like this do not need to have good writing. They skate by on their characters being attractive. And that is pretty much the only selling point of this show. The art is quite well done. While not highly detailed, it looks nice. The characters aren’t poorly animated and the backgrounds are all well done. It seems like a bit of a shame to have such a nice artist on such a bad show. If you want to just turn your brain off and look at pretty pictures this would fit the bill.
Those who love Inu S Boku SS might enjoy this
Inu S Boku and Hetalia are both terrible shows with boring characters. However they are very popular because the characters are attractive. In many cases, unusually attractive with no flaws physically. If you enjoy shows like this where you can look at how beautiful the characters are, this is for you. Other than that it has no redeeming value.
