AKB0048 latecomer to the spring season is about an idol group that goes out of their way to visit places where entertainment is banned.
AKB0048 starts by showing some anti-idol signs and having some little girls traveling through the sewers to see a performance. While the girls are watching the performance, a battle using mechs and ground forces breaks out and the idols get away in their bird shaped vehicle. This is not before the girls have weird octopus shaped things called Kirara around them. Then there is a time skip of four years and it shows what the young girls are up to in the present. The girls are applying to join the idol group they were watching at the beginning of the show. Then we see what it is like at Nagisa’s house where her father is an official and tries to keep her from the singing that she loves. The girls are all accepted to the next round and go through various troubles with loved ones. Nagisa has to decide if she wants to follow her dream or her father’s wishes.
When entertainment is banned, all idols are outlaws.
This series seems like a joke. I mean do they really need mechs and missiles to take down idols? Then after shooting off their missiles they get taken down in hand to hand combat by small girls or their heart shaped tazers. All the other parts of the military must make fun of them for getting beaten by little girls with hearts in their hair. Unfortunately the battle part was only a small part of the first episode because it was hilarious.
The character designs are almost a cute overdose. There are hearts in the girls’ eyes and glowing in their hair and even the girl military crew has cute uniforms. It also makes it quite apparent that the girls applying to get in will join AKB0048. I mean they are the only outsiders that have the same style as the idol group.
Overall the story is average, but the premise is funny. I am hoping for more idols kicking soldier butt in the future.
No wonder they won. All their strategists have glasses.
Status: Watching. Not really suggesting, but I find the premise of this show hilarious. Time will tell if it keeps up.
