Now it is time for a battle of the manga shorts with Ai Mai Mi and Mangirl! Which anime short about manga will be watchable and which will be trash?
Ai Mai Mi
Ai Mai Mi is about a group of girls in their school’s manga club doing totally normal things like trying to kill each other with mayonnaise.
Between the two episodes the only consistant thing is that at the beginning there is a fantasy portion before the opening. In the first episode one of the girl gives a kappa a cucumber and in the second they talk with some weird thing. Neither of those events has anything to do with the rest of the episode.
The visuals for Ai Mai Mi is not very good and it teases the viewer at times by showing better drawings. That is something that really annoys me.
The best part of Ai Mai Mi is the ending which shows the girls in various video games. It does not make much sense to have them in video games since they are making manga and not video games. So the best thing about this show does not even have anything to do with the show. Not that the show has a cohesive story to mess with, so I guess it does not really matter.
Overall this show is just a cute girl doing cute things show with manga thrown in sometimes. The jokes it tries to quickly shoot out are not funny, so there is not really any reason to watch it since there is no story either.

Mangirl!
Mangirl! is a show about a group of girls trying to make a new manga magazine. There is a story in addition to comedy.
Most shorts go for just comedy with short segments of gags. If a short tries to do a story it usually does not suceed that well. Mangirl! is actually managing to do both comedy and story. That is mostly due to the story just being about the process of getting a group together and working on releasing a magazine.
The visuals for Mangirl! are pretty good for a short show. There is also a much higher level than many shorts have.
Overall there is nothing seriously wrong with this show, but I do not find it all that entertaining. It is mostly cute girls make a magazine.
Status: Watchable but I don’t know if I will be watching
