Ensemble Online Beta

A while back we did a post on Ensemble Online, an interesting new game that was having a Kickstarter. This is a useful object lesson for any other developers out there. Their Kickstarter was not a success, but that did not stop them. They now have a new beta open and are going to be trying a more traditional route for the game.

What is new with Ensemble Online

Since we last checked in there have been some improvements. These range from really useful ones that greatly improve the game to minor tweaks. Let us go over a few in a recent patch:

  • A bug with skill bullets was fixed
  • A zoom bug was fixed
  • Significant visual updates
  • New weapons and armor have been added
  • Overall changes to the the difficulty curve
  • Corrections to skills

Overall the game is a very different experience unless you have played it recently.Everything from the visuals to the items has had significant improvements made. The game is shaping up nicely and we hope to soon see a bustling community with many towns set up over the course of the game. The map itself is of course quite huge, so you can pretty much have your own little area if you go in soon.

What other developers can learn from Ensemble Online

Despite some proper connections with the press, their Kickstarter did not go through. However what we are seeing quite a bit is the fact that this is no real problem. You can still have your game and be successful afterwards. We hope that fellow developers see this and are inspired.

Where you can get this edition of Ensemble Online

You can simply go on to their main site here: http://playensemble.com/register/apply/. You can also hear about the various features which will be added to the game later on. The final product should be a fully populated world that a huge number of players can explore. It may be a little rough now, but with your support they can really do some amazing things with this game. You can also check out their Twitter and give them feedback on their forums. They want to hear your feedback about the game, and this is your chance to have an impact on an early game.
