Endless Space – Wings of Freedom Announced

Endless Space – Wings of Freedom is in development for the Neo Geo X. We at first thought the Neo Geo X would only have retro classics. However it seems third parties are interested in it. This means a great many things we will explore with you.

Endless Space – Wings of Freedom Itself

This game is going to have little to do with the original game. It will be a 2D shoot em’ up. Endless Space – Wings of Freedom centers around a Pilgrim exploration team. You hop throughout the universe. Planet after planet shows off massive bosses and hidden secrets.

Endless Space Wings of Freedom Gameplay

The Gameplay of Endless Space – Wings of Freedom

You can expect a fairly standard mix of shoot em’ up gameplay. Here are a few features that the game is selling itself on:

  • 2 Player co-op action
  • 4 different ships with unique weapon settings
  • RPG systems for levels, skills and power-ups
  • Arcade, Boss, Endless and 2P Versus modes
  • Chiptune music by FlyByNo

Of course all of these come with the classic visuals many enjoy.

Why the Neo Geo X?

It seems like the Neo Geo X is an excellent fit for those who consider themselves mid-tier developers. It offers a highly functional console with good tools. It also carries the Neo Geo label which has some prestige. It looks like non-traditional systems are going to move into the void if Nintendo fails. Developers would be well-advised to take note of this new trend.

The Indie Appeal

Many indie gamers are also retro gamers. Indie developers should also take note. It will cost you much less to develop for this system. It also will appeal directly to a fan-base that would enjoy retro games.

Getting Endless Space – Wings of Freedom

You can get the system itself at the main Neo Geo X site. The system uses a variety of game cards to give you a classic arcade experience. The game itself is being created by Amplitude Studios. So check these sites out if you want more information.
