Out with the bad new days, in with the good new days. Endless Space and many other games are going with free updates for their games. This is a nice change from our present days of expensive DLC.
The Endless Space Update Itself
There are a great many things that have been added. Let us go down a few of them:
- Automatons custom faction, taken from a member of the community who goes by “Panzer”
- New Trade Route panels and Empire Management views
- Additions to diplomacy and alliances
- Better hero management
- Better AI
- General fixes to the overall game
For those already enjoying the game, there have also been balance changes. Armor has been changed for some units. Even individual skills have been altered. All around you will find that this is a significantly rebalanced game.
What sets Endless Space apart
The developers claimed that they were going to let the community decide a great many things. Were they able to let them decide everything? No. It’s just not practical. But what sets them apart is they’ve made a huge effort to. The “Automatons” Faction is just one part of this. The players themselves get to give feedback on how the game evolves. Few developers do this in the industry today. This makes the company someone to watch later on in the future.
Endless Space is just part of a trend
The new trend is to have free content for your game. In the old days, we would have to pay for “expansions” which were expensive, but well worth it. The present trend is to go with DLC. The future trend that we are already seeing here, is free content. Guild Wars 2 is also going with this model, although they are also trying to make money off of the gem store.
As usual, you should check out the main Endless Space site or just buy the game on Steam.
