EA Origin: Electronic Arts distribution service- Nerd Age

As usual, EA is tired of playing by the rules and will be making their own service to compete with former allies.

http://www.origin.com– EA has decided to take on steam with its own store, Origins. Origins is geared more towards console delivery, simply due to the nature of Electronic Arts games. So how is it as a store? Not really any better than a local game store or Amazon.com.

Sales are few and far between, most prices are the same as or worse than you could find elsewhere. The interface is rather bland as well. If this is the best a company as large as EA can do when steam has multiple sales in a day, they’re just asking for a Nerd Age poor review beatdown. It’s called tough love. Well, it would be if we loved EA.

Update: Since then the war between various media giants has escalated.  You can check out our article on one such situation here. The situation has gotten so heated that we cannot be sure that Electronic Arts will even keep their games on Steam. It is obvious that Electronic Arts would make more money off of their own service, but this seems like an awful waste.

On the other hand, it does mean that there will be a huge number of sales all over the industry. We will give Electronic Arts some credit on the fact that they are having better sales and offers in order to compete. It is quite excellent that  we will be able to see such great offers and prices from all over the industry. When big companies fight, it is the consumers that win big.  We will keep you posted on upcoming news about this story and offers, but so far Electronic Arts has not removed most of their games.
