Dungeon Defenders Development Kit and Capture the Flag

The DLC for Dungeon Defenders has finally come out after we were all teased with the codes for the pre-alpha. This update has two major parts.

Dungeon Defenders Switch Teams

Which team should I pick? Can't believe you can play alone.

Development Kit

First I will talk about the Development Kit. With the DLC that includes the Development Kit that allows the player to alter anything about Dungeon Defenders to make their own levels which can be played in the open online mode. You can also use the code and content to make your own game.

To get to the Development Kit the player has to first download the DLC from Steam. Afterwards  go into the new folders in the Steam Dungeon Defenders directory. Find out more about installation and how to use the Development Kit from this handy guide.

Also here is an example of something modded using the Development Tools.

Capture the Flag Mode

Dungeon Defenders Capture the Flag

The new pre-alpha for PvP capture the flag has arrived. To get this you need to download the DLC from Steam and update the game. Watch out because it may tell you that you have the map available before you update, but you won’t unless you update the game.  In capture the flag mode the players are on two different teams red and blue. There is only one flag that the two teams fight over.

At first the flag is just sitting there for one person to channel and pick it up. After the flag has been first picked up the players will have to kill the character with the flag to be able to pick up the flag. The longer someone has the flag the more points their team gets. It slowly ticks up and when it gets to a certain level one team wins.

Dungeon Defenders Capture the Flag 2

Well now that the basics are out of the way my thoughts on the new game mode. First, it seems like some champions will be more useful in this mode than others.  I expect to soon see all the same champions playing capture the flag. Second, some traps are not useful at all. If the character can totally walk around the trap then don’t bother putting it down. Third, this map does not seem to look quite as good as some of the others. It could get better though since this is just the pre-alpha. I did like some of the snowmen and other small touches. I don’t know why there is a mixture of fall items and snow though.

Cool Snowman

Gotta love that snowman.

Overall the new mode looks like it could be fun, but I think I prefer the normal play mode. I am glad they are already releasing new ways to play this fun game though.

Here is a video about the new DLC:
